Shower base repair

Description: When does mould present a more serious issue that requires more than replacement of the silicone? The microbes multiply at rapid speeds onto the surface of the silicone and then penetrate between the silicone junctions, eventually penetrating behind the surface behind the silicone. You can tell when the mould has reached behind the surface when it will not clean away; the mould is coming from behind the surface. Once the mould is beyond the surface of the silicone, the only way to stop the mould growth is to cut out the silicone and remove it entirely. If any silicone remnants are left behind, the mould growth will continue. Our shower re-sealing process The new sealant will be applied to all tile junctions within the shower recess, including the internal perimeter of the shower base, the vertical intersections of the shower recess, and the vertical internal channels of the shower screen. The shower screen should not have sealant applied horizontally across the bottom of the shower screen on the inside, where the shower screen meets the shower base.

Description: When it Comes to Replacing a Shower, How Long Does It Take? Renovating the Shower When you are thinking about installing a new shower in your house and shower base replacement cost, one of your primary concerns probably revolves around the length of time it will take to finish the task. This is due to the fact that the shower you are replacing will be located in a bathroom that will be out of commission for the duration of the project. Depending on the number of other bathrooms you have and the number of people who live in your home, this may require you to share a bathroom and a shower with other people for some period of time. To answer your question, how long does it take to install a new shower? This question has more than one solution, and each one depends on a distinct set of circumstances, such as the kind of shower or bathtub you're going to put in and whether or not you're going to hire someone to do the installation for you or try to do it yourself. A reasonable time estimate for replacing a shower would fall somewhere between three and five days. However, depending on the specifics of the situation and whether or not you intend to perform the task on your own, it can take significantly longer than that. Make a decision about what kind of shower you would like to install in its stead. Because there is such a wide variety of ways to take a bath or shower, it may be difficult to decide which model of bathtub or shower you want to install in lieu of the one that is now there. The following are some of the most often chosen options: Standard bathtubs are the forms of tubs that will supply you with the fundamentals necessary to take pleasure in an easy bathing experience. Normal shower: If the only thing you care about is getting clean as quickly as possible and you don't need any further add-ons, then a standard shower might be the best option for you. Tub/shower combinations: If you have the habit of taking a speedy shower in the morning but like to soak in a warm bath to unwind at the end of the day, a tub/shower combination may be the ideal choice for you. Enclosures for showers When aesthetics are of the utmost importance to you, installing a shower enclosure is the best option. The enclosure of these kinds of showers is made entirely out of glass, and it serves as the primary focus of interest in the bathroom. Showers that may be entered and exited without having to step over a high wall are known as walk-in showers, and this method is ideal for people who have restricted mobility or who have trouble doing so. A low barrier at the entry point of a walk-in shower makes it more secure for users to enter and exit the shower. Walk-in bathtubs are the optimal choice if you are seeking for a method of bathing that is less hazardous and more convenient. They provide a secure environment for bathing by including a number of safety elements as standard, such as flooring that are resistant to slipping, entryways with low thresholds, grab bars, and several sitting alternatives. Whirlpool and spa tubs are a type of tub that may bring the luxury and relaxation of a spa into the personal space of your own bathroom. Because of the size of these tubs, you will be able to totally submerge yourself in warm water while taking use of the high-volume jets and the fact that you may vary their intensity.

Shower regrouting

Description: Shower Tile Re-grouting and Epoxy Are you convinced that your shower needs re-grouting? STOP! You need to read this information before you make any decisions WHY DOES YOUR SHOWER HAVE MOULDY, MISSING OR CRACKED GROUT? Under normal conditions, a shower should NEVER need re-grouting. Grout is not a maintenance item that needs replacing or maintenance. Grout is a permanent installation that should never need replacement. If your shower is displaying the following; • Cracks in the shower grout or floor tiles • Missing grout • Holes in the grout • Mouldy grout • Efflorescence of grout (Chalkiness/calcification) • Mushrooms or ants. If your grout displays these characteristics, there is more going on than you may realise. The missing, mouldy cracked or deterioration of grout are symptoms of an underlying issue. The grout is NOT the cause of these issues. You may have heard claims by shower leak repair companies claiming to have the ability to repair leaking showers without removing tiles. You may have heard about under tile injections to repair waterproof membranes beneath tiles. We have also seen claims of over tile waterproofing, which again will not provide a waterproof bathroom that will comply with Australian Standards. Some companies are even offering to tile over existing tiles; this practice is at complete odds with the National Construction Code (NCC), AS3740-2010 Waterproofing of Domestic Wet Areas and AS 3958.1-2007 Guide to Installation of Ceramic Tiles. 25 year guarantees, lifetime warranties littered with terms and conditions which would make a claim close to impossible, and even so, would usually be limited to failed product replacement only.

Description: Options for the best bathroom floor tiles in 2022 Before making a choice, it is important to understand the advantages and disadvantages of each bathroom floor tile selection. A surprising range of materials are available for bathroom tiles. Tiles made of ceramic, porcelain, and vinyl are frequently thought of first, and with good reason. Alternatives available now include cork and stone. It is crucial to pick a flooring material that won't absorb water and ruin it but won't become dangerously slick when wet. The next step is to strike a balance between style and price. You'll be more equipped to make selections for Melbourne Bathroom Renovation Packages with the help of this guide to the best tile for bathroom flooring. Options for bathroom flooring Linoleum Tiles Vinyl is the most popular bathroom flooring material due to its affordability and ease of installation. All bathrooms, including the master and the powder room, can use it. It performs better than others in terms of security, ease, and toughness. The leading vinyl tile manufacturers have virtually equally improved their looks and ease of installation. It may be easily cut with a utility knife and is self-adhesive. Prices begin at $2.50/square foot. Tiles (Ceramic, Porcelain) Ceramic and porcelain tile are probably among the best bathroom floor tile options, whether you're looking for stone or wood imitations, vibrant penny tiles, or squares with lattice patterns. Ceramics are simple to clean but less hospitable for bare feet than vinyl. Although radiant floor heating is beneficial, a hard surface is still hard no matter the temperature. Ceramics require more skill to install than vinyl, but a determined DIYer can manage it. Ceramic is protected from wear and scrapes by the superior glaze. Compared to clay tiles, porcelain tiles are more robust and have a uniform colour. Porcelain tiles start at $3 and ceramic tiles at $0.50 per square foot. Tiles Glass floor tiles have two appealing features: • The floor is covered in a thin coating of glass that creates the illusion of depth and, when colored, a magnificent stained-glass effect. • To prevent slips, use textured glass and floor-rated tile when installing this tile. Glass tiles that prevent slipping and have numerous grout joints Using these suggestions, you can use tiny glass tile squares to add a pop of colour to the shower floor or even the sidewalls. Prices start at about $5 per square foot. Paving Stones Stone tiles once adorned the foyer. They have become more common in other areas, like restrooms, in recent decades. Stone tiles are available in a variety of hues, including cream, blue, red, green, and gold. Aperture, tumbling, and etched textures offer something for everyone. Stone is typically more expensive than ceramic or porcelain tiles. Porous stone also requires more maintenance than ceramic tile, such as regular washing and sealing. Prices can change. Composite plastic The more commonly referred to as planks, plastic laminate tiles are also appropriate for remodelling. The tiles don't significantly increase the height of the existing floor, making room-to-room transitions easier to arrange, similar to laminate counters for a generation or two. Although laminate is durable and simple to clean, it is not water-resistant. It is recommended to use it in a half-bath rather than a full bath because standing water can cause the fiberboard core to expand and buck. To stop water infiltration, caulk cracks around walls, toilets, and (if in a full bathroom) the tub. Cons: Compared to ceramic or vinyl, laminates don't come in as many different styles. Price per square foot is $1. Carpet Tiles Pulverized limestone and linseed oil are the ingredients used to make natural linoleum. In a traditional or modern bathroom, it looks good. It is supposed to naturally prevent the growth of microorganisms, withstand dust and dirt, and maintain its colour. Click-in-place plank patterns make installation simple, and it has a lovely appearance. Because linoleum is expensive, the aesthetic has a cost. Prices begin at $3.50 for each of seven. A cork floor Warm to the touch and quite cosy underfoot, cork flooring is a great choice. Even if you purchase finished tiles, plan on using many coats of polyurethane to protect the floor and stop moisture from penetrating the subfloor. Cork tiles are installed with a troweled glue, but click-in-place floating floors are also an option.

DIY salvaged wood bathroom shelves and ladders are an affordable and frugal option for folks who don't want to get rid of their possessions. Drawer separators and other inexpensive options to organise your space are available at dollar stores. Additionally, avoid painting the bathroom ceiling white. These days, painted ceilings come in a wide variety and are a great way to bring life to a small area like a bathroom. Look no farther than our guide to painting a ceiling if you're a do-it-yourselfer eager to take on this project. If you want to get a gothic look in your home, Farrow & Ball hues are suggested. Use floor paint rather than wood paint for a more robust and non-slip coating, albeit with a more limited colour palette. For The Bathroom Walls, Choose A Different Wall Paint. A new coat of paint is one of the simplest and quickest ways to refresh a space. Right now, pink is one of our favourite colour combinations, and it does wonders to enlarge a tiny space. In light of this, we advise selecting rose colour if you want to give your bathroom a modern makeover. Our favourite pink is Farrow & Ball's Sulking Room Pink because, despite its name, it has a very sophisticated feel about it. With the help of this straightforward and inexpensive technique, bathroom tiling doesn't have to be expensive. Even if your bathroom design is simple, painting your tiles in a solid colour or an ombre gradient can help you create a stunning aesthetic. To get rid of the hazardous vapours from this solvent-based solution, which needs one layer, keep it away from youngsters and make sure the space is sufficiently ventilated. Learn how to correctly clean tile grout because clean, sparkly grout leaves a lasting impression on onlookers. Use The Ombre Painting Technique The easiest and least expensive method to give a boring place new life is by using current paint trends. Apply two or three contrasting tones of paint to an accent wall using our instructions to create an ombré effect (blues are a wonderful choice for a bathroom).

Shower Leak Repairs

Posted by 17 hours ago (https://www.theshowermanmelbourne.com.au/shower-leak-repairs-re-sealing/)

Description: Do you need a permanent solution for a leaking shower or mouldy silicone? If a permanent solution for the leaking shower is the desired result, the shower recess will need to have the tiles and substrates replaced with a waterproofing membrane barrier installed. The replacement of silicone is only recommended for maintenance of a properly built shower, it is not a solution for a leaking shower or a shower with an established leak. Silicone will fail if the shower has not been properly built in accordance with AS-3740-2010 Waterproofing of Wet Domestic Areas. How are shower screens made? Laminate safety glass is used on framed and semi-frameless shower screens. The glazier cuts the glass to size to manufacture these shower screens and inserts them into the aluminium framing. The glass inside the shower screen frames remains sharp at the edges; this is why an aluminium frame is needed around each glass perimeter. What is that rubber shower screen seal around the glass? The rubber seal provides cushioning to the edges of the glass within the frame. If you see a glass section without a frame, this glass would be a different type of glass; toughened safety glass, also known as frameless glass. Toughened glass is the type of glass used in frameless applications. The process involves cutting the glass to size and then placing it through a heating process where the glass is heated to approx 700°C followed by rapid cooling utilising cold air. The edges on this glass are polished therefore not sharp. This process is more costly than using laminate framed glass due to the additional work required in manufacturing. These are usually custom made as there is almost no tolerance for sizing error. All shower screens are required to comply with Australian Standards AS/NZS 1288 and 2208. To meet this standard, Grade A safety glass must be used in all shower screens. Laminated and toughened Grade A safety glass is designed to shatter into small blunt pieces of glass, which are unlikely to cause harm instead of large sharp pieces.

Does insurance cover a leaking shower

Posted by 5 days ago (https://www.theshowermanmelbourne.com.au/does-insurance-cover-a-leaking-shower/)

Description: Does insurance cover a leaking shower, leaking bathroom or cracked or broken shower base? It will depend on your individual policy and circumstances. In our experience, sometimes if a leak is caused by a plumbing leak in a pipe, insurance may cover this, but it will depend on the policy and individual circumstances. Generally insurance will not cover leaking showers caused by faulty, poor or non compliant workmanship, or where waterproofing has failed. Waterproofing will generally only fail if the shower has not been installed to comply with NCC or AS-3740-2010 requirements or if the shower has been poorly maintained. Some clients have informed us that their insurer has covered costs associated with replacing or repairing shower bases that have cracked or broken due to accidental damage, however this would depend on the individual circumstances and your policy. This highlights the importance of commercial plumbing perth ensuring that your shower is installed by a professional installer consisting of professional tilers, waterproofers and plumbers working in conjunction with one another to ensure that the shower complies with regulations every step of the way. You must be able to demonstrate that the shower has been installed to comply with the NCC (National Construction Code 2019 and AS-3740-2010 Waterproofing of Domestic Wet Areas. The importance of the entire team working together to prepare the area for the next trade to allow them to carry out their work to comply is paramount. When having subcontractors or independent tradespeople working on a single project without responsibility for the overall outcome, you can expect failures as each trade is only responsible for their own work, you absolutely want the peace of mind of a single shower repair specialist company providing warranty for the entire project.

Re-tile-and-waterproof-shower-recess-walls

Posted by 15 days ago (https://www.theshowermanmelbourne.com.au/re-tile-and-waterproof-shower-recess-walls-package/)

Description: STEPS FOR RE-TILE-AND-WATERPROOF-SHOWER-RECESS-WALLS To begin, we carefully remove the shower screen and wall tiles .As the tiles are adhered to the wall lining it is not possible to pry the tiles from the wall lining, instead we remove the wall lining and tiles using a precision tool to cut out the wall tiles and lining to provide a neat finish so that you will not need to worry about damage to areas outside the shower. If necessary, we treat any rotten framing timber in the wall cavity by either replacing or reinforcing with new timber framing before installing fresh new wall linings, using either plasterboard or sheeting- the product used is dependent on the product that has been used to the remainder of the bathroom to ensure consistency in wall finishes Once the new wall lining has been installed, we prime the area and fill any penetrations or joins in the sheeting with fast cure polyurethane The first coat of our 2 step waterproofing system is then applied, followed by a second application once the first application has cured. Next we install the tiles to the shower recess walls, followed by the grout. Caulking is the silicone product used to fill the vertical junctions where the tiles meet, and the horizontal junctions where the wall tiles meet the shower base. New plumbing fittings are installed if you have opted to upgrade fittings, or any existing tap covers and shower heads are re-installed. To finish, we install a new shower screen.

Traditional Shower Base Replacements

Posted by 23 days ago (https://www.theshowermanmelbourne.com.au/traditional-shower-base-replacements/)

Description: Do you have a cracked, damaged or unsightly shower base that you would like to replace? Would you like to replace the wall tiling or wall lining and waterproof it at the same time? Do you have a tiled shower base which you would like to replace with a polymarble or an acrylic shower base? Do you have water damage to timber floors beneath your current shower base that you would like replaced? We can replace a damaged or cracked shower base using the traditional method where we completely remove the existing shower base and and install a brand new acrylic, polymarble or SMC shower base. We can also install a tiled shower base in place of your old polymarble or acrylic shower base. In order to do this, the wall lining or shower recess wall tiles will need to be removed in order for us to remove the shower base as the wall lining is essentially locking the shower base into the wall cavity. We complete the job with new waterproofing, tiling and shower screen installation so that your shower is ready for use without you needing to organise other trades. You may not realise, but your existing polymarble, fibreglass or acrylic or “plastic” shower base is actually checked into your wall framing studs. When originally installed, your polymarble shower base would have been installed before there was any plaster or tiles on the walls in your bathroom. The polymarble shower base is installed hard against your timber wall stud frame, and then the plaster is installed, waterproofed and tiled, locking your shower base into position. The only way to physically remove your existing polymarble shower base is to remove your wall tiles and plaster behind the wall tiles. How do we replace polymarble shower base with tiled base? To replace your existing acrylic, fibreglass or polymarble shower base with a tiled base, we must replace all plaster and wall tiles inside the shower recess after we have removed your existing shower base. This is a requirement as we must provide a compliant waterproof membrane barrier to ensure that your waterproofing is applied and compliant with AS-3740-2010 “Waterproofing of Domestic Wet Areas”. These steps are also necessary so that we can provide you with a quality, compliant end result. Never let any contractor tell you that they will remove only the bottom row or two to replace your shower base. If you do that, not only is your waterproofing non compliant with current waterproofing standards, but your shower is guaranteed to leak in the future. The Process: Day 1: To begin the process to replace your polymarble/acrylic or fibreglass shower base, we begin by removing your tap-ware and plumbing fittings. We then remove your shower screen, shower recess wall tiles and the wall lining (plaster/sheeting behind your wall tiles in your shower). Once the wall lining has been removed, we are then able to access and remove your existing polymarble/acrylic shower base. Day 2: We remove and replace any water damaged timber flooring from beneath your shower base if required, and also install new underlay to the shower base area. The plumber will install any plumbing rough in items such as new tap-ware, shower heads and a new trap with puddle flange to the shower base. . Your new acrylic or SMC shower base will be installed. Days 2 and 3: We install a new wall lining to your shower recess walls. Once we have installed new water resistant plaster or sheeting to your shower recess walls, we apply polyurethane and a waterproof membrane barrier in accordance with AS-3740-2010 “Waterproofing of Domestic Wet Areas” regulations. This is a 2 day process as we have to leave the membrane to cure between coats and prior to tiling. Day 4: Once the waterproofing has cured, we are able to lay the tiles to the shower recess walls. Day 5: The day following the installation of the tiles we can return to grout the newly laid tiles. Day 6: Caulking (silicone) application to shower recess Day 7: Your new shower screen is installed. We also re-fit or fit off taps and shower heads during this visit, ready for you to recommence use of the shower 24 hours later. For this service, you would need to allow 8-10 days from start to finish as its important that adequate curing times for waterproofing, adhesives, grouts and sealants are adhered to to ensure your shower recess is completed to the highest possible quality standard.
